WARNING: This section is THREE PAGES in the course curriculum. That’s more than any other. For reference, World War II is two full sections and only two pages. This one is three pages. So, buckle down. Know. These. Empires. I put links to the SAME empire pages from the previous sections. In my class, we go over these two sections together as we go Empire to Empire. But, I’ve also included CONTENT SPECIFIC TO 4.5 in the Vocab, People, Art, and Documents. So, know these 5 empires and how they maintained these massive empires (not you France, your empire is petite).

6. Mercantilism Cartoon

1. This one is tough to TL;DR. Be familiar with the BIG 5 EMPIRES.
2. European Trading Post Empires are up and running.
3. Mercantilism fueled Joint Stock companies who had monopolies on trade in certain regions (focus on the British East India Company and the Dutch VOC)
4. The Atlantic System (Triangular Trade) sparked massive changes demographically in Africa and economically worldwide with all that Spanish Silver moving around the planet.
5. All of these empires setting up shop in foreign places inevitably led to the formation of syncretic religions like Vodun.
